The Dennis DS was specifically designed as a short-wheelbase “village” fire engine for tight streets and rural areas, meaning it could turn in places where larger fire appliances would struggle. Despite being shorter, many were fitted with full-size pumps and ladders, so they could do almost everything their bigger Dennis brothers could — just with a tighter turning circle and often a cheeky reputation among crews for being “the pocket rocket” of the fire service.
